The Plantronics RD-1 (78887-01) is an electronic hookswitch cable that is compatible with ShoreTel and Toshiba phones that support native headset hookswitch control. The benefits of the RD-1 are the remote answer and end call capabilities which normally would be achieved using an HL10 handset lifter. The RD-1 can be used in conjunction with the online indicator light, allowing others around you to know you're currently on a call.
