The ShoreTel 655 is a Gigabit IP phone. Created to be ShoreTel's top phone, the ShoreTel IP655 is at home in the boardroom or on an executive's desk. The phone features a large duplex speakerphone and a microphone designed to cover 360 degrees. Both of these features make the ShoreTel 655 a great conference phone, but the ability to accept external microphones is what sets the phone apart from the competition. The IP phone supports the G.722 HD voice codec, allowing for a much higher quality voice conversation than traditional phones. The phone takes advantage of the ShoreTel standard MGCP to connect to ShoreTel voice switches.

The large backlit color screen (640x480 pixels) sets the phone apart as an executive phone. The fact the screen is a touch screen helps to solidify the ShoreTel 655's status as their flagship phone. 12 line appearances can be configured on the screen, and all keys are self-labeling on the screen itself. Haptic (vibration) feedback allows users to have an intuitive feel for when a touch is recognized by the screen, the same technology used in many cell phones.

The ShoreTel 655 has all of ShoreTel's high end desired features. In addition, the IP phone offers an integrated VPN client for remote tunneling the phone across the WAN. An integrated two port Gigabit Ethernet switch is included with the phone for collocating a PC and the IP 655 together without sacrificing network performance to the desktop. Built in support for visual voice-mail is also included. Visually see a list of all the messages that have been left.
